Hey just a PSA to let you all know that the Long Beach Pagan Meetup group has become affiliated with a larger regional group called the SoCal Free Pagans. The SoCal Free Pagan group is a loose association of Pagan groups across the Southland dedicated to upholding the freedoms of Pagans, Witches, and other Heathen groups. Currently, the SoCal Free Pagans do not hold meetings of their own but instead support the growth of local groups like ours. They do intend to hold public rituals, such as a Yule ritual, and I am thinking about attending.

The SoCal Free Pagan group can be an excellent resource when trying to find Pagan groups in other areas of Southern California. They do not partner with every Pagan group, but only those seen to uphold the values of freedom of speech, beliefs, and membership.

Also, they really need a graphically oriented web monkey. If you can build a nice looking and organized website, they could really use your help.

Check them out, its looking like a nice group so far, and they've said some nice things about us on their website!

Hello and Merry Meet, fellow Pagans and interested persons :)

I have been very excited and pleased to see many new people join up on the Long Beach Pagan Meetup group website recently.
If you are not already a member of the group, I heartily encourage you to join at the link at the bottom of this message. So far it's been an interesting group, and I hope you'll come with us to our September Meetup at Garden Of Pan in Downtown Long Beach next week Thursday. The group atmosphere, like the cafe's, is relaxed and fun, with like-minded and intelligent individuals coming together for Pagan fellowship and the free exchange of ideas.

If you have not RSVP'd for this meetup, please take a moment to do so now so I know whether or not to expect you. You can RSVP "No", or "Maybe", if you can't make it or you're not sure, so please take that quick and painless moment and give me an idea of who's coming. Thanks a lot.

It's been a while since I posted a message to this community, and I'm sorry. I try to keep in touch more often to encourage conversation and to raise interest in the meetups. I've been rather busy with out of town visitors and interesting activities which I'd love to share with you at the Meetup. It would be great for you to share your recent activities with us at the Meetup also, if you would like.

I've also recently had some thoughts about outings that I'd love to go on that are more or less Pagan themed (although some are not specifically so), and I'd love to run past the members the idea of multiple meetup type activities throughout the month that people can come to if they want to. Of course no activities have required attendence here at the Long Beach Pagan Meetup group, but the more people who participate, the better the event is likely to turn out to be.

Bring your outing or activity ideas with you to this coming Meetup, as well as any ideas for Meetup locations. I love sharing my favorite places with the group, but I'd love to find the new places that you know of as well.

Also if you have a favorite Pagan book or topic that you'd like to discuss, by all means bring it; we'd love to hear about it.

In the past, members have asked to get together for ritual purposes. I would like to discuss this topic further at next week's Meetup.

Ok, well that's enough of a novel to write today. If you have any questions for the group, check out our Message Board on the group site. As always, contact me directly with any other questions or problems you may have. And feel free to invite other people you think might enjoy the group. See you next Thursday!

Bright Blessings,
Kelly Phillips

Forrestal Nature Preserve
32201 Forrestal Drive
Rancho Palos Verdes , CA90275

I have decided to change the venue a little bit this month, and switch the meetup to a sunday afternoon instead of a weeknight. You will notice that the location is Forrestal Nature Preserve. The address given is for a Montessori School located just next to the park entrance. You may park at this location, and Yahoo or Google maps should provide good directions and maps to it. I suggest we meet in the parking lot at about 1 PM before heading into the park. As always, call if necessary - 949-400-5207

Please bring a picnic lunch for yourself and/or items to share. Bring plenty of water or other hydrating liquids as we will be outside. *This is a picnic and meetup only, not a circle or ritual* We will spend time further getting to know each other and to discuss the future of the meetup group.

The Forrestal Nature Preserve is a beautiful piece of undeveloped land which was at one time a quarry or mine and was slated for development after that closed. However, the cliffs were deemed to unstable to build on, and now the area is a public park filled with wildflowers and minerals, with lovely cliffside views of the ocean off the Palos Verdes Penninsula. You can find quartz and barite crystals lying on the ground, and by law you are allowed to take only what minerals you can carry off the land. There are other interesting flora and fauna on the property, so please beware the signs posted on the property to know what you can and cannot touch during our visit.

Tueday was the June meetup for the Long Beach Pagan Meetup group. 6 people, including myself, RSVP'd yes to come, but it ended up being just 4 people. two were completely new to me, lovely ladies with strong senses of humor and a lot of knowledge and experience in pagan spirituality. The conversation ranged from mundane things such as our work and our living situations to more spiritual topics, such as the perceived spiritual energies of certain locations and neighborhoods in Long Beach. We had drinks and food and discussed future meetups and what they'd be like (ie, did we want to meet for dinners, only during the week, hikes or picnics in the surrounding areas, etc). All in all, it was a good time. I'm looking forward to the next one.

We also discussed the book I mentioned not long ago, Urban Primatives, by Raven Kaldera and Tannin Schwartzstein. None of the others had read it, but after talking about it for a while they seemed interested. I'd love to find out what people thought after reading this book, so I encourage you to read it if possible.

Ok, enough of that. Anything you folks want to discuss?

Hey Guys-

Thought you might be interested. A friend gifted me with an excellent book on urban paganism and I wanted to share.

If you are a city pagan (and if you live in or around long beach, you are), you may find the book The Urban Primative, by Raven Kaldera and Tannin Schwartzstein extremely useful and helpful.

Check it out. I haven't finished reading it yet, but just from what I have read so far, its a great resource.

Let me know what you think.

Hey guys, I recently re-created the Long Beach Pagan Meetup group on to try to get interest up in this group and get people together. Likely the group is temporary in order to get the word out since so many people seem interested in a group there but evidently no one wants to pay for it (not that i'd blame them). I'd like to get together with everyone this coming Tuesday to, well, meetup :) and get to know each other over coffee. I hope you can attend.

The meetup information is on the site, listed below. I'd like to see everyone on Tuesday, May 23, at 7pm at the It's A Grind coffee house on PCH just south of the traffic circle. My cell phone number is 949-400-5207 if you have questions or get lost or something. Please invite your friends!

You can join the Long Beach Pagan Meetup group by clicking the following link:

I hope to see you there!

Either of you have any thoughts on how to gain membership for this group, how to advertise it? I don't know many long beach pagans (sort of why i started the group). I wanted to bring in the people who are interested in the list for long beach pagans, but there doesn't seem to be a way to post to that list unless there is a current coordinator person.

I'm open to suggestions. I'd love to see this community take off.

I have created this community as a resource for the Pagans of Long Beach, CA, and Pagans and other interested parties from the surrounding areas. I was inspired to do this because I joined the Long Beach Pagan Meetup group at and found out they had no organizer. I was going to offer to become the organizer for the group, but I couldn't see paying for the group there when I could have something similar here for free.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Kelly, I'm 28 years old, and I moved to LB in December of 2004. At the time I lived downtown and loved it. Recently I moved in with my boyfriend around the Anaheim/Redondo area, and that's ok, but I still miss downtown. I've been an Eclectic Wiccan, both solitary and in Coven, since college back in Louisiana and am still searching for a coven or working group I can fit in with locally. At the very least, I'd like to make some more friends with beliefs and experiences like mine. I love learning new things and meeting new people, so it seems natural that I create this group.

If you love long beach and are Pagan or interested in Paganism and related topics, this group is for you.
